Compliance Week Activities
Creative Strategies & Ideas

In this episode of Creativity & Compliance, Tom & Ronnie share creative activities, strategies and ideas to engage employees for Compliance Week.

It’s almost time for Compliance Week – a dedicated time to drive attention to your program through some engaging activities. It’s a great way to raise awareness of policies, highlight learning tips, drive traffic to key resources and generally make you and your program friendlier and more accessible. The community seems to recognize the importance of being interesting, fun, dare we say ENTERTAINING during this time because we all know that – news flash – people like FUN!
  • It’s a way to stand out and rise above the noise of all the day-to-day communications that we’re all bombarded with
  • It’s a way to drive traffic to policies and learning resources
  • It’s a way to change the tone and improve your reputation and brand

This begs the question – If this is a valuable strategy during this week, why don’t we do this throughout the year! That is a rant for another time. Let’s leave it at this.

“Compliance Week is a great opportunity to be fun and interesting, to reintroduce what the compliance functions role and purpose is, to drive attention to policies and learning resources and as a launching point to incorporate these high-value activities into your program throughout the year.”

Here are some strategies and ideas.

  • Video of the Day – Share short, entertaining videos each day, highlighting a policy or speak up culture and driving traffic to those resources. Songs & Jingles, Fake Commercials, Movie Trailers, and more.
  • Interactive Contests & Games – Ask employees to do something. This could be as simple as “spot the problem” or “answer this question” which could/should be interesting and fun. It could be, “write new ethics & compliance lyrics to this song” or “make a selfie video sharing your code/motto.” It could be a scavenger hunt where you ask employees to look for “easter egg” hidden within the Code. Interactivity is good.
  • Talk Shows Featuring Your Execs – Interview leaders mixing in some serious questions along with some “fun facts” to get them talking about the issues in a conversational way, while also humanizing them and making them less intimidating. The “On-the-street” style of interviews are also great for getting lots and lots of employees involved speaking about the importance of behaving the right way.

Distribution Opportunities – Get the Word Out

  • Post on company newsletters
  • Post on other department newsletters
  • Distribute via internal social media channels
  • Give to leaders to play during Zoom/Teams meetings
  • Play as commercials during town halls or meetings
  • Distribute cards with QR Codes

Entertainment is helpful! It drives engagement, awareness and stickiness of learning all the while making you and your team more welcoming and approachable. Ethics & Compliance’s main goal should be influence. Mixing in these fun activities makes it more likely that employees will feel comfortable seeking out your advice and support.
